Kuranda Rail Ecology Surveys – 2016

Queensland Rail is undertaking stabilisation works along the iconic Kuranda Rail corridor to protect the track and trains against potential rock falls and to maximise operational safety. Due to proposed disturbance to vegetation within the adjacent Barron Falls National Park and the Wet Tropics World Heritage area, Biotropica was commissioned to undertake ecological surveys ensuring that works would not significantly impact on the environmental values of these areas whilst the essential works were completed.

This was to be an ecological survey like no other with our fearless botanist Gemma Horner scaling sheer cliff faces and climbing high into the adjacent mountains to access the proposed work sites and ensure the ecological values were recorded appropriately.
