MGT Minerals Pty Ltd is engaged in exploration and mining for tin and precious metals, primarily from flagship operations in Mount Garnet. In a major expansion of its current activities, MGT Minerals Pty Ltd is now planning to significantly boost tin production at the Mt. Veteran site near Mount Garnet. Since 2013, Biotropica Australia has assumed responsibility for the environmental management of MGT Minerals Pty Ltd local operations, co-ordinating the work of our teaming partners Golder Associates and CDM Smith as and when required.
In 2017, MGT Minerals Pty Ltd contracted Biotropica to prepare the material required for a major amendment to the Mount Veteran site Environmental Authority reflecting the anticipated mine expansion. Together with our partners Golder Associates and CDM Smith, Biotropica undertook the full range of studies required by regulation. The critically endangered Acacia purpureopetala, Australia’s only pink-flowered wattle, occurs on the site and was a key focus of flora surveys. Extensive consultation with regulating agencies during the process of completing the EA ensured studies were targeted and relevant.
North Queensland is biologically and culturally diverse. Biotropica Australia is well placed to support mining clients in this area, with extensive on-ground experience in ecosystems of the Wet and Dry Tropics and Cape York Peninsula.
